DESCRIPTION:5th UN Global Road Safety Week highlights need for strong leadership\n\nThe Fifth UN Global Road Safety Week acknowledges that strong leadership is needed to advance road safety in countries and communities and achieve related Sustainable Development Goal and other global targets. Thousands of advocates worldwide are taking the opportunity of the Week to #SpeakUp for road safety and call for urgent action on the concrete interventions which have proven to save lives. Such measures\, featured in the WHO SaveLIVES technical package\, include improving road safety management; making roads\, vehicles and road users safe; and enhancing emergency care following a crash. Despite progress in many countries\, road traffic deaths continue to rise\, with an annual 1.35 million fatalities. Road traffic injuries are now the leading killer of children and young people aged 5-29 years. This is an unacceptable price to pay for mobility. Whether we travel as pedestrians\, cyclists\, motorcyclists or drivers\, all of us – as parents\, students\, employees\, volunteers and concerned citizens – can be leaders for road safety. DESCRIPTION:El evento histórico que propició la creación de las Naciones Unidas\nEn virtud de la resolución 59/26\, la Asamblea General declaró que los días 8 y 9 de mayo son una ocasión propicia para el recuerdo y la reconciliación y\, sin perjuicio de que los Estados Miembros dediquen otras fechas a la victoria\, la liberación o la conmemoración\, invitó a todos los Estados Miembros\, organizaciones del sistema de las Naciones Unidas\, organizaciones no gubernamentales y particulares a que celebraran anualmente uno de esos días\, o ambos\, en forma apropiada para rendir homenaje a todas las víctimas de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. \nLa Asamblea hachincapié en que este acontecimiento histórico estableció las condiciones que permitieron crear las Naciones Unidas para preservar a las generaciones venideras del flagelo de la guerra\, y exhortó a los Estados Miembros de las Naciones Unidas a que aúnen sus esfuerzos para hacer frente a los nuevos desafíos y amenazas\, asignando un papel fundamental a las Naciones Unidas\, y a que hagan todo lo posible para resolver las controversias por medios pacíficos\, de conformidad con la Carta de las Naciones Unidas y sin poner en peligro la paz y la seguridad internacionales. \nLeer más…
